HP DesignJet T250 FAQs

What’s the difference between the HP DesignJet T230 and HP T250?

The HP DesignJet T250 offers slightly faster print speeds for improved productivity and comes with a 2-year warranty (compared to 1-year on the T230), making it the better long-term choice for busy technical environments.

What can I print with the HP DesignJet T250 24″?

The “T” stands for technical, meaning this A1 printer is designed for technical drawings such as CAD plots, building plans, and architectural designs. It’s ideal for A1, A2, and A3 prints. For automatic printing of A3 or A4 sheets, we recommend adding the optional sheet feeder accessory as a must.

What papers and media can I use?

The T250 supports both HP and third-party inkjet plotter papers, including brands such as CAD Plot. It also works with tracing paper, drafting film, and satin/gloss papers.

Important notes on media:

  • Use plotter paper no longer than 50m, with a 2″ (50mm) core.
  • For heavier presentation papers, maximum roll length is 30m.

Can I print on canvas, scrim/polyprop, or photo media?

No. The T250 uses CMY dye-based inks, which are not light-fast or water-resistant. Prints on these media types will fade within a few months, so it’s not recommended for art prints, banners, or photos. For poster printing, the HP DesignJet T870 is a great alternative. For canvas and banners/general graphics, the Z6 is ideal.

What drawing sizes can I print?

  • Rolls: Load up to 594mm wide to print A1 and A2 drawings.
  • Sheets: Optional sheet feeder allows automatic printing of A3 and A4 sheets.

We recommend using the HP DesignJet Click app, which provides a seamless workflow with automatic switching between roll and sheet media.

Can I print longer lengths?

Yes. The T250 can print up to 610mm wide and as long as needed, limited only by file size and processing. It can handle technical drawings 2–3 meters long without issues.

Can I print from a Mac?

Yes. The HP DesignJet T250 supports macOS via HP drivers, the HP DesignJet Click app, and also Apple AirPrint for driverless printing.

Can I print from a USB stick?

No. Direct USB printing is not supported.

Does the HP T250 support wireless printing?

Yes. The printer supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, allowing easy printing from desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. You can also print via a USB cable.

Is the HP DesignJet T250 24″ suitable for a small office?

Yes. Its compact design fits easily into small offices or studios while still producing professional large-format prints. It’s light enough for a desktop, and even a sturdy wall shelf. Alternatively, you can add the stand for the most compact A1 free-standing plotter.

Is the T250 suitable for a construction company?

Yes. The HP T250 is designed for AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) and manufacturing environments, but it’s classed as an ultra-low volume printer. It’s ideal for light use. For higher-volume printing, the HP DesignJet T870 is recommended, as it offers a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over time due to a lower cost per print.

What software is recommended for workflow?

HP recommends using the HP DesignJet Click app for seamless media management, job tracking, and automatic roll-to-sheet switching.
