HP 3JN69A Jetdirect 3100w BLE / NFC / Wireless Accessory
The HP 3JN69A Jetdirect 3100w Wireless Accessory enables wireless networking for selected HP DesignJet wide format printers, allowing connection to an existing Wi-Fi network without the need for a hard-wired LAN connection.
This accessory is compatible with HP DesignJet T1600, T2600 and DesignJet XL 3600 series printers, as well as a number of HP A3 and A4 printers. Unlike typical laptop Wi-Fi adapters, this unit is specifically designed for printer environments, supporting full printer discovery, configuration and management over wireless networks.
Wireless Connectivity for Professional Print Environments
The Jetdirect 3100w provides Wi-Fi connectivity via 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11 b/g networks, enabling printers to be discovered, configured and managed wirelessly. Print queues can be installed and both printing and scanning tasks performed without a LAN cable connected directly to the printer.
Almost all of the same network protocols available over a Gigabit Ethernet connection are supported over wireless, offering flexibility in installations where cabling is impractical or unavailable.
Ethernet and Wireless Simultaneous Operation
The printer can be connected to both a Gigabit Ethernet network and a wireless network at the same time. When Ethernet and Wi-Fi are used concurrently, the printer will obtain a separate IP address configuration for each connection, allowing greater flexibility in network management.
Wi-Fi Direct Support
Wi-Fi Direct is supported, allowing compatible devices to print wirelessly without being connected to the same network as the printer. Wi-Fi Direct can be used whether or not the printer is connected to an existing Wi-Fi network.
Important Compatibility Notes
While this accessory supports BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and NFC, it should be noted that not all HP DesignJet printers support these features, even when the Jetdirect 3100w is installed. Functionality depends on the printer model and firmware capabilities.
Wireless Performance Considerations
Wireless communication speeds are inherently lower than those of a Gigabit Ethernet LAN connection. Available bandwidth on wireless networks can vary due to shared usage with other devices, distance from the access point, and environmental radio interference.
As wide-format print files are typically large, users should be mindful of potential reductions in data transfer speed when printing over Wi-Fi.
