Canon has unveiled the ImagePrograf Pro-1100. The successor to the nearly decade-old ImagePrograf Pro-1000, designed for studios, professional photographers and businesses.

Although it retains the same physical dimensions (723 x 435 x 285mm) and weight (32.4kg) as its predecessor, the Pro-1100 is packed with cutting-edge technology, including 5G WiFi.

The Pro-1100 prints up to A2+ or 17″ in size, but thanks to its new paper roll capability, it can now produce prints more than twice as wide as the Pro-1000. While the previous model could handle panoramas up to 1.2m, the Pro-1100 extends that to an impressive 3.27m.

The ImagePrograf Pro-1100 is built for high-output performance, utilising an extensive 11-ink system along with Chroma Optimiser. This is applied over the printed image to smooth out the unevenness between ink droplets, enhancing glossiness, creating a flatter surface, and expanding the colour gamut for richer, more vibrant prints.

Achieve deeper blacks, richer blues, and smooth colour gradation, thanks to the new 12-colour LUCIA PRO II inks with Chroma Optimiser for smooth reflections and anti-bronzing.

Like its predecessor, the Pro-1100 uses 11 inks, each with a substantial 80ml capacity, now updated to the new PFI-41000 series.

While dye inks offer speed, vibrant colours, and high saturation their longevity is limited, with colours potentially fading within seven years. The Pro-1100, however, uses pigment-based inks, which excel in contrast, black-and-white prints, and durability. Canon claims these prints can last up to 200 years (or 180 years on fine art paper), a significant improvement over the typical 60-year lifespan.

The new Lucia Pro II inks further enhance dark tones and black density on art paper by densely packing coloring materials, resulting in richer colors and smoother gradations in shadow areas.

The latest ink formulation includes a wax component, enhancing scratch resistance on glossy paper. This improvement helps reduce waste and minimises the need for reprints, which can be time-consuming. Canon designates the Pro-1100 as a medium-capacity printer, surpassed only by models with larger MegaTanks.

For convenience, you can use Canon’s Auto Replenishment Service to automatically order new ink when levels are low. The default threshold is set at 10%, but you can adjust this for each colour, which is useful if your print jobs favor certain inks over others.
