Printer paper is a term generally used for everyday printing on A4 or A3 desktop printers, while plotter paper is made for large-format devices used in CAD, architectural drawings, posters, and technical plans. Plotter paper comes in wider rolls (such as A1 or A0) and offers smoother, more stable print surfaces to ensure precise line work and sharp detail.
For CAD, architectural or engineering work, 80gsm or 90gsm CAD plotter paper is the most common choice. It offers a clean, bright finish ideal for fine line accuracy and technical details. If you need extra durability or archival quality, you can also choose heavier-weight paper or coated media from the same range.
Tracing paper is best used for overlays, hand-drawn revisions, design drafts, and artistic work where transparency is required. It allows you to layer drawings or plans without obscuring details. It can also be used in many large-format printers if the device supports lightweight translucent media.

These papers offer superior colour reproduction compared to standard printer paper and are available in gloss, satin, matte, and heavyweight finishes. They’re designed to work flawlessly with large-format inkjet printers.
A1 rolls or sheets can be used in most wide-format plotters, but compatibility depends on the printer’s maximum width. Many CAD plotters, design printers, and technical machines support A1 paper, while desktop devices do not. Always check your printer’s maximum media width and core size before purchasing.
