Canon Pro-2100 Review

The Canon Pro-2100 builds on the success of the Canon Pro Series platform with multiple design & productivity tweaks over the Pro-2000, the 2000 had replaced a 3rd generation ageing platform and brought many innovations & improvemnets to the Canon Graphic Arts imagePrograf range.

Existing users of older style iPF-6100 iPF-6300 & iPF6400 will be delighted at the increased productivity driven by a single 1.28" width printhead, delivering ink more quickly & more productively than older models and in the case of the Pro-2100 a noticable speed update from the 2000 as well.

For Print Service Providers and for Creatives whom care about quality and productivity the Pro-2100 introduces AI (Artificial intelligence) through it's media handling, sounds gimicky but it can significantly reduce cost & time. Creative people who use more than one substrate and whom flick betwen rolls will be delighted to find that this printer series teaches it's self their media selection so when swapping between rolls medias are scanned and the correct profile is selected from previous history automatically applying the users preferred settings, in addition the width of the roll is measured so part roll lenghts are known before deciding to continue with a print - significantly reducing wastage.

The new model offers a larger 4.3" screen, that can show the type of media being used, and and new physical buttons that allow users to quickly 'Load', 'Feed' and 'Cut'

Mechainically the machine is around 20% quicker than the old Pro-2000 (in fast mode) & design wise the paneling now features clear windows so that users can see paper being fed from the roll and a top viewing window reassures users that the printer is printing from the get-go 

Our Opinion

Well we are biased and make no apologies for it, we do have a soft spot for the Canon range and with multiple photographers in the business including an award winning one along with the odd artist we do consider ourselves to be firmly on the side of creative people & businesses. 

For us the canon delivers good value for money and the best ROI for this type of product, ink cost tend to be lower than alternatives due to much reduced wasted ink than that of other platforms, the head can be changed by users so no costly technician on-site labour charges and as well ongoing service cost is as a consequence much lower.

We can never fault the quality of output through a very wide-range of medias and Canon have done a great job at allowing media manufacturers access to product so off the shelf profiles can be created to make life easier for all users.

As ADOBE users we have found Canon have gone above & beyond with their FREE plug-ins including cost calculators, stretcher bar wrap functions again making the entire user journey much easier.

This printer does not disappoint and we rate it highly for affordability, speed and user experience.
