Autodesk Desktop Subscription - The Facts

Autodesk Desktop Subscription - The Facts
Autodesk desktop subscription

Buying Autodesk products will never be the same again, after 31st January 2016 most Autodesk products will no longer be available to purchase, instead you will rent via Autodesk pay-as-you-go Desktop Subscription.

What is Desktop Subscription?

Desktop Subscription is a purchasing option that allows you to rent Autodesk software on a rental term basis to meet a variety of business needs and budget considerations, such as project-based work, or hiring temporary staff.

Customers who purchase Desktop Subscription receive benefits such as access to the latest software and product enhancements, Basic Support, and in some cases, access to select cloud services.

What are the key features and benefits of Desktop Subscription licenses?

Desktop Subscription grants license holders the right to use desktop software for a specified period of time with the option to renew their contract for additional payments, simply choose Quarterly, Annual, 2 or even 3 year terms or mix and match based on your needs.

Customers who purchase a Desktop Subscription receive benefits such as access to the latest software and product enhancements, Basic Support, licensing rights such as Previous Version, Global Use, and Home Use Rights, and depending on the suite or product, access to select cloud services. The following  provides a summary of the key features and benefits.

Pay-as-you-go access to desktop software: This gives you the flexibility to control costs without a large up-front investment. In some cases, you may be able to bill the cost of Desktop Subscription back to your clients, making it easier to treat software costs as an operating expense rather than a capital expense.

•Stay up to date: With an active Desktop Subscription, you always have access to the latest software releases and product enhancements.

•Licensing Rights: Desktop Subscription in some instances includes Previous Version Rights which allow you to use older versions of your software  Desktop Subscription also includes both Home and Global Use Rights; install and use your software on alternate machines and/or use your software outside of your home country.

•Flexible licensing: Desktop Subscription enables you to easily scale up the number of licenses to manage temporary increases in workload or staffing, and scale back when you no longer need them.

•Support: Never go at a problem alone, Basic and Advanced Support (for select products) are available to help you troubleshoot common issues. You will also receive exclusive subscriber-only newsletters and communications as well as access to webinars and other e-learning tools.

Does Desktop Subscription software sit in the cloud or on my computer?

Desktop Subscription software is installed on your computer in the same manner as traditional perpetual-license, software products; it does not run in the cloud. Many Desktop Subscription offerings include access to cloud services that are not installed on your desktop; for example, rendering. Cloud services do run in the cloud and require an Internet connection.

You can easilly configure a suitable Workstation to run your software via our workstation configuration tool

What happens to data stored in the cloud when contracts end?

Cloud storage continues until the end of the billing cycle. After the subscription contract ends, all documents stored in the cloud remain available for 30 more days. If your subscription has expired, you can continue to access and view existing designs and files. However, you still need active software to edit or add information to the files. Your account will revert to the free 5 GB of cloud storage 30 days after your subscription expires. Any saved files exceeding the 5 GB storage limit may become inaccessible.

I already own an Autodesk product, will it stop working?

If you already own a "perpetual" license then don't worry it won't suddenly stop working, however, you may not be able to upgarde it unless you have an "autodesk maintenance subscription" providing you renew your maintenance subscription you will continue to benefit from updates and other added value autodesk services.
